“Lord, let Your servant depart in peace, according to Your word….”

February 13, 2014

There is no sermon for February 2 posted, since I was away from the parish to attend the funeral of Paul Zimmerman, my grandfather. The linked post is the announcement from The Lutheran Church–Missouri Synod’s news department concerning him.

February 2 is when the Church celebrates the Presentation of Our Lord. The Church hears the description of Simeon, the faithful and devout Israelite who was given the opportunity to see the LORD’s Messiah prior to his death, from Luke 2. The Nunc Dimittis (the “Song of Simeon”) takes on a heightened character on that day. That same opportunity given to Simeon is what all who die in the faith anticipate receiving. May that be so for all our loved ones who have longed to see their hope of salvation fulfilled.
